Montessori Stories is a passion filled venture which aims to support a lifelong love of learning. Our goal is to encourage creative learning and provide resources that embrace the learnings and theories of Maria Montessori.
Now, before I go any further I should introduce myself; I am a writer, a single mum and have an ever growing thirst for learning and knowledge. I also believe that my daughter deserves to have the best of me; together we enjoy the world around us. Montessori Stories was created because it enables me to spend valuable time with her while inspiring others to do the same with their families.
I discovered Maria Montessori when I was pregnant, and it was at that moment I realised this great woman would be a significant part of our life; her fundamental belief of allowing a child time to learn at their own pace inspired me. As the years pass, I see people rushing from A to B – children are stuck in cars and strollers, denied the opportunity to “Just Be”. Far too often, parents are running to extra-curricular classes then wondering why their children are tired and distracted.
Perhaps they just need time.
It is no coincidence that one of Montessori’s more famous quotes is ‘Follow the Child.’ She didn’t mean literally of course, and although she was a woman with inspirational theories far ahead of her time, this simple statement is not just an ethos for childhood. I personally feel that it can be taken beyond adolescence and into adulthood. After all, if we were to follow our instincts, our dreams and our passions where would we be?
For me, my sole purpose is to enjoy my time as a mother and educator. Not only do I embrace Montessori, but I’m enjoying the simplicity of life that the philosophy allows. In fact, that’s why you are here reading this article.
My vision is to have a community of people who get it. I want to inspire those who understand that allowing a child to be themselves whilst following their instincts endows upon them life skills not taught in most classrooms.
We create our Montessori materials and books together and we draw upon our own experiences. The goal is to make learning part of life, embracing all that surrounds us.
Montessori Stories – Our Current Projects.
We are working on a series of Montessori books which are fun, educational and based on our own adventures. As part of my daughter’s education, we use the concept of the Five Great Lessons where storytelling is fundamental in learning. It was her idea to write children’s books and of course, as an author, I am incredibly happy to oblige. This idea also lends itself to Erdkinder, something I intend to pursue as she reaches adolescence.
I’ve chosen to do this because I spent so much time researching and second guessing my ability to teach. As someone who needs to understand fully in order to teach comfortably, having manageable projects is crucial in my homeschooling efforts. By sharing what I do, I hope to be able to address some of the financial and physical challenges others have by providing ideas and activities which complement Montessori education.
It is a natural step to create content and materials whilst researching and learning for ourselves. To find out more about our plans, please click here.
What we do in a nutshell.
We provide inspiration and ideas to homeschoolers and teachers around the world, and are advocates of using literacy and creativity as a broader means of learning.
