Montessori Materials – A Journey into the Unknown!
Montessori materials are a minefield to research, whether you are a teacher or parent, or both in my case! The very idea that we follow the child means that sometimes we’re caught off guard despite our best efforts in preparedness.
Every time I start to research a new topic I feel a sense of overwhelm; I know there are many hours of preparation ahead and it’s not always easy work. Whilst sticking my head in the sand is an option, that isn’t going to help my child learn.
Unsurprisingly, I have been discouraged on more than one occasion from going down this road, but I continue to see a need for Great Lesson extensions and activities to be available in a simple format and at a reasonable price.
As we know, each child is unique and they learn in their own way, and I think that after years of pondering I’ve finally found a way that I can support learning, especially in writing and art.
I’m using my skills as an author and artists to create a project called ‘Take Five Words’. A simple idea to engage, inspire and pique curiosity. The best thing about it is that it will be suitable for use across the planes of development. I can even see it working in adults, if you are interested in exploring writing in the future!
A Little About Us
You can read more about me here, but essentially we are a mother and daughter duo who love to explore and learn together. My daughter attended a Montessori setting from the age of two, and now that she twelve the landscape has changed somewhat! I feel blessed to offer her the opportunity to see this project develop, and of course it links into Maria Montessori’s Erdkinder idea for adolescence.
All in all, Montessori education is the perfect fit for us, and if I can lead by example by combining education and business, I know that I have done the best for her.
Providing Affordable Montessori Materials to a Wide Audience
Our website reflects what we are trying to achieve. I want to share useful resources and Montessori materials with teachers and parents alike; the goal is to inspire a love of learning in children. Not everybody has an abundance of disposable income so my aim is to reach and support as many people as possible.
I envisage a platform where ‘Take Five Words’ becomes the storytelling base for wider fields of study. It can start from birth, with a bedtime story, use of rhymes, and most importantly the human connection that sharing stories brings. Over the years, these nuggets of vocabulary build a strong internal network, and eventually the skills develop to convey this through words and art.
Take Five Words will take a different path for each individual whether the result a research a project, a fiction piece, or an artwork.
Along the way I also plan to link the concept to the Five Great Lessons.
