Progress Over Perfection
We’re already a week into the year, and it seems that I’ve made a little progress.
I’ve promised myself that 2024 will be the year to let go of perfection because, if I’m honest, it’s the thing that’s held me back from launching my books and educational resources until now.
I sent out my first newsletter of the year on the 1st January. It was a conscious step to engage with the people who visit Montessori Stories; it does put me beyond my comfort zone to send emails because I am an introvert. I dislike intrusion, so why enforce it on others?
The thing is, I do have experience and useful skills that can help other people. My daughter is now twelve, and it’s easy to underestimate the value of the things you’ve learned along the way during the parenting and homeschooling experience. I suppose I’ve come to the conclusion that even if one little snippet of information helps others, then it’s worth putting it out there. Be it perfect or not!
So, what’s the plan?
Well, you may be aware that I published a Montessori story book a while ago, and the intention was to inspire young minds to start creating their own stories based on what they’d learned in the story. The good news, I’m finally going to finish this project.
By mid-January I will have a series of extensions to complement that book, and of course the story is already free via PDF to subscribers. This is tidying up of the unfinished business that has always niggled at the back of my mind.
Currently, the book does have activities with blank pages in the paperback for creative doodling and notes, but I want to take that a step further. I am going to do my best to release a “Now It’s Your Turn” resource pack, and it will invite children to pursue an element of the story that piques their interest.
It is possible that there will be additional prompts added at a later date, and if I hope that eventually it will all sit in a members area. Yes… that low cost, access to everything idea of $1 per month is still in my head!
Of course, I do want to tie this all up with a pretty bow and link it back to the Five Great Lessons, but I do have to take it a step at a time. Storytelling is at my core. It’s not always a blessing to have a wandering, daydreamer living in my head, but if I can start sharing more with the outside world it might just help others.
For now, I invite you to sign up for my newsletter if you haven’t already done so. I will soon be sending out free activities as well as early access to the creative learning prompts related to An Aqueduct Adventure.
Thanks for reading. It’s been brief, but it’s a step towards me overcoming my procrastination!
