New Year, Fresh Start

Montessori encourages exploration

As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to reflect. Years have passed since I started this website and I haven’t reached the target I had hoped to, which is frustrating. Looking back, I can see why this has happened, and when I consider those things it becomes easier to remain positive about the future.

In 2018, I began to use Montessori homeschooling with Lola full time. This along with my decision to start a degree in Arts and Humanities meant my ability to focus on work took a dive. Although it’s been difficult, I believe that it’s the right thing to do because I’m passionate about education as a lifelong path; I want Lola to see me making changes at 46 years old, and for her to be inspired. I want her to understand that she need not choose at such an early age what she will do for the rest of her life. We all have within our hands the opportunity to learn new things and explore the Universe at will, despite what some may have us believe.

Last night I started to re-read the first Maria Montessori book I bought – The Secret of Childhood. It reminded me of why I wanted to take this path and of how I interpret the lifetime of work that Maria left us. The book reminds me of the bigger picture and of why the Montessori approach is much more than the work performed in the classroom. It’s about getting outside, developing life-skills and giving human beings tools for life. I refer to humans rather than children because there are programs like Montessori for Dementia from the AMI; it really is an idea which establishes a foundation for life.

So, it’s time to put the pieces together as we embark upon 2024. I am starting with the creation of materials for the first of the Great Lessons, and have our study planned for the next six months. I’ve never been so organised in my life! In addition, I’m pleased to say that now things have settled into a good routine, I plan to launch my Montessori materials and the membership element of this site in April. Next year we’re reaching for the sky!

I’m feeling good about next year!

Please help us grow...
